Fine Italian proggers SAILOR FREE have come along way since their first outing! granted I havent heard their debut from 1992, but I have the 1994 release which is great, then they were quite in the heavy prog section, with lots of keyboards (incl. mellotron) and great guitars hooks and soli! First part of the Spiritual Revolution were released in 2012, though a fine outing, I really wasnt that hooked on their Riverside and later Porcupine Tree inspired tunes, how ever they had something going for them and I was actually intrigued when this, second part came into my mailbox!!
After a few spins I detect a more..ahem..mature band, in their musical "voice", their music seem more coherent and finally truly their own niché in the many prog circuits and styles out there! They even manage to sound like something from the golden 70´ period of prog with "Maze Of Babylon" adding a sax to the tune (I hear glimpses of Van Der Graaf or even Audience) very nice!!
They even manage a piece (though short) of ambient "Society", another surprise is the very laidback " The Fugitive" brilliant tune. "Amazing" comes through as were it a Steven Wilson ballad, I like that! The short vignette "Game over, its me" is quite ear-catching followed by the superb " We Are Legion" I am again reminded of the great 70´ prog bands and times, I really like their re-definition and dare of their musical delivery and/or realisation!!
Must also mention " Special Laws" that also takes this old geezer back in time, great stuff.
Thats all you get from me friends, I recommend seeking out the first part of "Spiritual Revolution" then this one.
Either way, this fine album can easily stand alone musically!! Now go buy!!
