Sunchild is the other Anthony Kalugin Project (one is Karfagen) this keyboard wiz hailing from Ukraine, is a very productive musician/composer with some 5 albums under the moniker Karfagen and 5 under the Sunchild name. I haven't had the pleasure of hearing Sunchild since their "Gnomon" release from 2008. Introduced to me by my good friend Will Mackie. This is a very whole album, a very European sounding (good thing) outing, with fine vocals (no accent) in English. The Karfagen projects are mostly instrumental, but this Sunchild is very song orientated, with great time signatures, complex breaks & shifts from the musicians involved, excellent keyboard waves and soli, fierce guitars both chord and solo vise, backed by solid bass and firm drums. The overall feel of this release is that of so called Neo prog but even Saga in their laidback mode "Berlin & Leningrad" but also touches and hints of Uk proggers like: Jadis, Pink Floyd & Camel " Isolation part 2 ". Enough of the comparison, this is a great release that have been sitting in my cd player quite a lot lately and I suspect quite a lot in the future!! Special mention to the fabulous title track (broken into 4 sequences) " Isolation" clocking in at a total 25 minutes plus.

It is very powerful and worth the price of admission alone!! Kalugin has surrounded himself with very talented musicians and they deliver the goods. Highly recommended by this old proghead.

Oh, I didn't care much for the front cover art! Doesn't really live up the high quality of the music it fronts!!
